Rio Open 2008

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

This event was well put together and ran smoothly. Nice medals too! My performance here was less than desirable, not meeting up to my own expectations as an athlete. Getting cut in the first round of the bracket by way of advantage points is never ideal. Never the less, I have one more experience in an international competition and a clear vision of what my game needs for competition in Jiu-Jitsu. Back to the academy on Monday to begin a new chapter in development.

The show was a success, well put together with action packed fights. I had a great time there watching the show and commentating with professional stunt man Ken Quinn. Congratulations to the Gracie Fusion team. I am looking forward to the next Fury in November.

Vikings at Gordo Jiu-Jitsu

^Above ^

Andreas Lagaard, Christian Tumyr, Daniel Sørensen & Eivind Windsrygg

This last week Gordo JJ has been under attack by the Norwegian Vikings. Recently a group of dedicated Jiu-Jitsu practitioners landed here with the intention of gathering and taking back the technical knowledge of the academy to their homeland of Norway. One more country helping to further the advancement of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world wide through these dedicated competitors. I hope you find all that you are looking for here in Rio.

Carlos Gracie Sr.

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Tonight marked the launch of the new Carlos Gracie biography: Carlos Gracie - O criador de uma dinastia by Reila Gracie. For those who do not know, Reila is Carlos’ daughter and mother of Roger Gracie.

Being here in Rio I had the fortune of being at the book signing in Jardim Botanico. Judging by the great turn out it looks to be a success. This book really sheds light on the Gracie family…Thanks to Reila Gracie the world can better understand the family that changed martial arts of our time.

Kids Class

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Kids class w/\Teaching this class with Prof. Luiz Paulo Soares Filho “Pitty Boy” has been a lot of fun. It is great to see young students practicing the application of new technique in class…to see them becoming more focused and disciplined while learning the martial art that has given so much to my life. It is a good feeling helping to build the next generation of champions and an honor to teach at this academy.
